Vegan on the Go: True Food Kitchen

True Food Kitchen recently debuted some new items, several of which are vegan. I had the pleasure of checking out a two of their new offerings as well as revisiting some old favorites this past Saturday.

 Old, But Still Good

Farmers Market Crudités (VEG)
chilled raw vegetables, tzatziki & black olive dip

The Farmer’s Market Crudités is one of my favorite items on the menu. It doesn’t get much simpler than chopping up vegetables and serving them on ice but True Food makes it seem like an art form. The two dips that come with it are not vegan but the crisp freshness of the veggies is perfect unadorned.

Charred Cauliflower (V GF)
harissa tahini, medjool date, dill, mint, pistachio

The Charred Cauliflower is a warm, deliciously decadent dish that makes great use of a variety of flavors including pistachios and medjool dates. Because it’s so rich, and just slightly sweet, it actually makes a great companion to the crudités.

That New New

Spring Asparagus Toast (V)
roasted cipollini onion, green garbanzo, tahini, mint, hemp seed

As much as I adore avocado toast, the Spring Asparagus Toast is a welcome riff on an oft-overused classic. The mix of textures, thanks to roast cipollini onions, green garbanzo and hemp seed are set off by a nice, sturdy slice of crusty bread.

Grilled Artichoke & Pesto (V)
artichoke, spinach, summer squash, black walnut pesto, lemon, aleppo chili, vegan almond ricotta

While I was a big fan of True Food’s Butternut Squash pizza, I believe their latest version, the Grilled Artichoke, and Pesto pizza, is an improvement. Where the butternut occasionally veered into greasy, this iteration, covered in summer squash, black walnut pesto, and artichoke, is crispy and light. The almond ricotta is a standout for its beautifully creamy texture.

True Food Kitchen continues to be a great option for those in need of healthy eating options for omnivores, vegetarians and vegans alike. Now, I gotta schedule my next visit so I can try all their new refreshers and cocktails. Yum!
