Bentonite Clay Pit Detox: How To & Benefits
By now you all know about my love affair with Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay aka natural calcium bentonite clay and after using it on both my hair and face I’ve found yet another place to put the stuff.
Bentonite clay is a regular part of my hair regimen. Mix bentonite clay with turmeric and rosewater for a DIY, glow-promoting skin treatment.
Now, before you think I’ve taken a step off the edge, armpit detoxing is an ACTUAL thing and it’s not only quick and easy but also super beneficial.
Armpit detoxing is an ACTUAL thing and it’s not only quick and easy but also super beneficial.
Benefits of Pit Detoxes
There are three main benefits of an all-natural pit detox.
Remove Built Up Toxins from Traditional Deodorants & Antiperspirants
Traditional deodorants use a variety of chemicals to stop both sweating and body odor. These can include ingredients with dubious reputations like aluminum salts, parabens and sulfates — a combo that works by temporarily blocking your sweat glands. Years of using these products can leave a build-up that causes skin irritation, blocked pores makes it harder for natural alternatives to work.
Improve Effectiveness of Natural Deodorants
Many people struggle with irritation and effectiveness when they first attempt to switch over to a natural deodorant. Detoxing your pits helps prepare them for the switch by balancing out your skin’s bacteria and removing the aforementioned build up, leaving them more receptive to natural alternatives.
Prettier Pits
Thanks to the trans formative powers of bentonite clay and ACV this detox gently resurfaces your skin, leaving pits smoother and, dare I say, glowing. And if you’ve ever dealt with itchy or irritated pits, the treatment can help eliminate both issues.
Time to Get to Detoxing

As promised, this detox is super simple. Both bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar boast a host of amazing benefits. You can read more about them here in my post, Aztec Magic Healing Clay is, Well…Magical.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp Bentonite Clay
- 2 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- Water (to adjust consistency)
- A Non-metal bowl & Utensil for Mixing
Instructions
Combine bentonite clay and ACV in your mixing bowl and allow to foam/aerate, then slowly add water while stirring until you get a thick, paste-like consistency.
Thoroughly clean, then dry your pits. I would avoid using this treatment on freshly shaven skin. If you have very sensitive skin or have never used ACV topically, it’s a good idea to try a patch test before fully applying.
Coat both pits, and allow to dry for 5-15 minutes (arms up!).
Gently remove dried mask with warm water. You can apply a gentle moisturizer (I like pure aloe vera gel) if skin feels tight. Once that dries you’re all set to try out your new, natural deodorant.
And that’s it. You can use this treatment multiple times a week, but go slowly and keep an eye out for irritation. Happy detoxing!
