Vegan on the Go: Eating Vegan in Italy (& Monaco)

Not only did I escape death by starvation in Italy (quite the opposite in most places, actually) I was pleasantly surprised by some of the offerings and blown away by others.

    From Houseplants to Produce

Over the past few years my interest in keeping and growing plants has grown by leaps and bounds. And, based off the reactions to some of my recent IG posts, I’m not alone. Our new home was nearly 2 years in the making. Shortly before the process began in earnest I became super interested in home gardening and ways to maximize small spaces. I knew there would be some challenges with growing in the desert but as I did more research I realized it wasn’t impossible — but more on the ‘how’ later. For now, let’s talk about what made me want to do this in the first place. Reasons…

    Label Reading 101 for Vegans

Reading labels is serious business if you’re vegan. Most of you already know that being vegan means avoiding all animal by-products. This includes meat, poultry, dairy, eggs, seafood or shellfish, and, for some of us, bee products. If you’re like me – i.e. impatient and not good with small fonts – you might find it easier to use an app OR memorize some red flag ingredients to be on the lookout for while you’re shopping. I’ve included my personal list along with my favorite label reading shortcut — the allergen warnings. What is an Allergen Warning? Food allergies are a big deal and between federal regulations and today’s litigious climate…

Vegan on the Go: Eating Vegan in Cabo San Lucas

One might think that eating vegan in Mexico is difficult and…that’s not completely inaccurate. Over the past week I managed to not only survive, but thrive on some of the most delicious vegan food I’ve had ANYWHERE and, despite some close calls, I didn’t have to OD on guac to make it possible. Like most destinations, you can find options in Mexico if you know what to look for and thanks to a growing trend towards vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian lifestyles, big tourist destinations like Cabo San Lucas are always adding new and exciting eateries. First off, some helpful phrases: Soy vegano/vegan – I am Vegan This can be helpful…

I wanted to test out a new feature here on the blog. So, for the next few weeks, I’ll be doing a weekly round-up of interesting vegan-centric news stories. FOOD + NUTRITION It’s Like Milk but Made for Humans Vegan oat-based milk alternative, Oatly, far exceeded sales goals thanks in part to a clever marketing campaign and has now inked a deal to increase its production 8-fold with the opening of a new bottling plant in Millville, New Jersey. Their success has attracted would-be competition, with Quaker Oats announcing the launch of their own oat milk scheduled for January 2019. I spotted our first snap pea blossom in the garden I spotted our first snap pea blossom in the garden!

Growing up in NJ, Winter meant snow, so it never really occurred to me to try planting a winter garden. Living in AZ, the Winters are much milder. I got curious and decided to experiment a little. I haven't grown snap peas since I was a little kid but I'm hopeful that I can harvest a few this season. I've also got a few types of radishes and carrots in grow bags to see what happens. Even if I don't get any produce I might be able to save some seeds 😅
Surprise harvest! We have one fruit bearing tree Surprise harvest!

We have one fruit bearing tree on our new property. When I saw it last, the fruit was still mostly green or stripey. I figured it was citrus but didn't know what kind.

This AM all the fruit were this gorgeous color and they smell AMAZING - like the world's tiniest, most fragrant lemons. I gave away some at work already and I REALLY want to try making infused sugar with them. Still not sure about the exact variety but they trend sweet.

I'm so excited to start gardening in earnest there now!

Starting everyday in 2021 with champagne thanks to Starting everyday in 2021 with champagne thanks to @bite.

I've been using @bite for the past year because it's:

Plastic free: from the glass bottles, to the compostable mailers sealed with paper tape.

Perfect for travel: the bottle easily fits in a dopp kit/make up bag or you could leave the bits in their pouch if you're worried about breakage.

+ It works & tastes great!: I normally use the Mint Charcoal flavor, but I'm diggin the Champagne, too. It's kind of like a fresh breath sweet tart. Both flavors are made with nHAp, a non-toxic, mineral alternative to flouride that also strengthens/remineralizes enamel and helps fight sensitivity.

Let's talk...HAIR. Hair is a huge part of the big Let's talk...HAIR.

Hair is a huge part of the big day. Going into planning my elopement I knew a few things:

1) I wanted to look like me & keep things natural

2) I wanted my hair to be the BIGGEST it could be

3) and I wanted to keep things simple

I was already protective styling when we set our elopement date, so I decided to keep going until about a week out so I could retain as much length as possible. I also knew that I didn't want to hire a pro or spend the morning cursing and sweating while wrestling my hair into a complicated style. The day of, I used just two products to refresh my two day old wash and go - my rosewater moisture spritz and shea butter - easy peasy, stress free and only 4 (gigantic) bobby pins were involved in the whole thing! In a nod to all the Goddess vibes and crystal healing energy in and surrounding Sedona I chose to accent my fro crown with a rose quartz headpiece I found on Etsy in a shop called Only for You Design
