Are You Using These Vegan Apps Yet?
Apps as in ‘applications’ not ‘appetizers’ (although I prefer them to most things overall). If you’re a new vegan (or even an old one), the constant influx of information can be pretty overwhelming. While I encourage you to get used to reading (and understanding!) your food labels, these apps can go a long way towards helping you begin your vegan journey, stay vegan while traveling and speed up the grocery shopping process. There are, of course, tons of other apps out there, but these are the ones I reach for regularly. Full disclosure, I use an Android but I believe most if not all of these apps are available for…

What’s on the Menu: Week 3
This week I revisited a few things I’ve really liked so far and added some new ones. In the last few weeks – and especially since I posted my progress pics – I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how I meal prep. There are tons of videos and resources out there but some of them on skimpy on the actual details so I recorded myself this past week putting my meals together piece by piece. Hope this helps! Here’s what I made in the video: Porkless Bites w/ Lentils & Asparagus (Lunch) Calories: 488 Carbs: 73.5g Fat: 6g Protein: 38g Meatless Meatballs w/ Broccoli & Roasted Tomatoes…
What’s On the Menu: Week 1
Once I got my Conscious Muscle meal plan I immediately started dreaming up ways to put my own spin on it. The way the plan is structured, you choose an item from 1-5 columns for each meal ( or ‘feedings’ as I’ve dubbed them 😅), and those foods combined, in the specified amounts, will meet your caloric and macro goals for the meal. BUT, having the macro and caloric targets meant I could also use My FitnessPal to plan meals in advance and combine them to see where I’d be at the end of the day. Personally, I think of calories and now macros as a budget. I have to spend them…

A Good Scrubbing: OZ Naturals Ancient Orient Bamboo Dermafoliant Review
So, you guys may remember, a few weeks ago my skin started acting up. Sometimes I start having issues when the temperature or season changes and it can also be brought on by flying from one climate (sunny and humid Hawaii) to another (dry and hot Arizona). After our last trip, I had enlarged pores across my upper cheeks, a patchy oil slick for a forehead and my poor nose was flaking and angry from all the extra tissue action during my last cold. I did an Aztec Indian Healing Clay mask and spot treatments, and, while it helped a TON, I still needed some help getting my skin’s texture back on…
Things to Do in Oahu: Snorkel & Sail with Holokai Catamaran
We booked our trip to Hawaii kinda last minute for the busiest part of the year so, naturally, I was primarily concerned with finding a place to stay. I lucked out with a great deal at Vive Waikiki – but more on that later. Once flights and accommodations were settled we were left with trying to find activities that weren’t already overbooked with the influx of tourists. While most of our evenings were booked with family dinners, our days were free and we needed to find ways to entertain ourselves and two boys. B and I actually sailed on Holokai Catamaran 2 years ago when we went to Oahu for…
A Word on Spices
Transitioning to veganism will DEFINITELY teach you the importance of herbs and spices. Getting the mix right can make the difference between a great meal and a culinary disaster. While you’re learning (there are literally billions of spice combinations out there), it can be nice to have a little help. Sometimes, I like to grab a spice blend like these two from @urbanaccentsspices. They have little spice kits – this one is called ‘Perfect Pair’ – that come packaged together with a recipe on each label. Each blend is non-gmo verified and crafted in small batches with all-natural ingredients. I’ve tasted a bit of both this week on their own and they’re…

Cashew Ricotta & Meatless Meatballs – Oh, My!
Lately, I’ve been having this craving for pasta. You know the kind – creamy, gooey, carb-loaded pasta smothered in marinara and cheese, plenty of basil and a little spice. Preferably, baked in an oven till it bubbles and the edges turn crispy. Prior to going vegan, I was suspended in low-carb purgatory with the occasional break for potatoes or bread but never, ever, EVER pasta. But this was a craving that had to be answered, so I hatched a plan (and a recipe) to put it to rest. Spinach and Chia Seed Fettuccine with Fire Roasted Tomatoes, Cashew Ricotta & Meatless Meatballs There are a few special items needed for this…
